A rug that is nearly right is a rug you notice every day

Columns interrupt living rooms. Hallways run long and narrow. A great many rooms sit somewhere between two off-the-shelf sizes.

We have been making rugs to measure from our Hung Hom showroom since 2004 — stairwells in Mid-Levels, boardrooms in Central, and a fourteen-metre hallway in Repulse Bay woven in a single piece.

How it works

Four steps from a room measurement to a rug on your floor

Step 01

Measure

Send dimensions, or we visit and measure. Within Hong Kong this visit is free. Photographs of the room help more than people expect — they tell us about the light.

Step 02

Choose

Material, pile height, knot density and design. We show you wool samples in your own lighting, because a colour chosen under showroom lights is not always the same colour.

Step 03

Approve

You receive a scaled drawing and physical yarn samples of every colour in it. Nothing goes on the loom until you have signed that off.

Step 04

Weave & deliver

Knotted by hand, washed, finished and shipped. We deliver and lay it in Hong Kong ourselves, and we ship worldwide.

How long it takes

Four to Twelve weeks

Size and knot density move that number. A 200 × 300 cm rug at 100 knots per square inch is close to a million knots, each one tied individually by hand.

That is why it takes months, and it is also why it will still be on the floor when a machine-made rug has long since gone to landfill.

If you have a deadline — a move-in date, a photoshoot, a client handover — tell us at the first conversation. We can sometimes prioritise a loom, but only if we know early.

Stairs, hallways and rooms that fight back

These are the jobs off-the-shelf rugs cannot do, and they are a large part of what we make.

Stair runners — measured to your tread and riser dimensions, with the pattern set so it lands correctly on every step
Long hallways — woven in one piece to any length, so there is no join in the middle
Rooms with columns — the outline cut and bound around the obstruction rather than stopping short of it
Round dining rooms — a concentric design that reads correctly from every seat

Questions

Before you commission

Is there a minimum or maximum size?

No practical minimum, and no upper limit that has stopped us yet. We have made everything from door mats to rugs over fourteen metres long.

Can you match a specific colour?

Yes. Bring a fabric sample, a cushion cover, a paint chip or a photograph. A physical object is far better than a screen image, because screens do not agree with each other about colour.

What is knot density, and does it matter?

It is the number of knots per square inch, and it is the main measure of how finely a rug is made. Higher density carries finer detail. But higher is not automatically better — a bold geometric design gains nothing from 400 knots per square inch, and you would be paying for detail the pattern cannot use.

Do you deliver outside Hong Kong?

Yes, worldwide. Within Hong Kong we deliver and lay the rug ourselves.
